Christ Brings Division - Christ Above All

In addressing His twelve disciples [and with application for all believers in the Church Age], Jesus refers to Himself as the prime object of importance, saying:
“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:34-39, NKJV)
In making these statements, Jesus is declaring that He is the number one priority and that He ought to be the number one priority in the disciple's [and by application, the Church Age believer's] life. Whenever there is a conflict of interest between what God wants for us [what God's Will is for us] and what the world wants for us [what the world's will is for us] we must follow the will or desire of God. Hence, we as believers should separate ourselves from the desires of the world to pursue the foremost desires of God. The greatest life obtainable is that which is obtained by orienting our will to God's Will.
