The New Law and The New Commandment for the Church Age Believer

The new law for the Church Age believer is the law of the Spirit of life or spirituality. Spirituality is manifested in the believer when the Holy Spirit controls his soul under the filling of the Spirit. . . . The filling of the Holy Spirit is the divine provision of the power of God for every Church Age believer to execute the Christian life (Ephesians 5:18). "Under the filling of the Spirit" means the soul of the believer is under the control and mentorship of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). However this absolute status of spirituality is lost through sinning, but recovered through rebound—privately naming or acknowledging sins to God the Father (1 John 1:9). . . . In the case of a new or immature believer, the filling of the Spirit is sporadic. Because he is ignorant of rebound and without Bible Doctrine to replace his human viewpoint with divine viewpoint, he continues in his old pattern of thinking. However, the better he understands sin and the repercussions of sin and the more often he applies the rebound technique, the longer he will be able to maintain the filling of the Spirit and the more Bible Doctrine he will assimilate. The Holy Spirit metabolizes doctrine into divine viewpoint in the soul of every believer.
"For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death." (Romans 8:2, NASB)

"And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:18, NASB)
The new commandment for the Church Age believer is the commandment to love God and love neighbor as self. The new commandment is an extraction of a portion of the old commandments stipulated in the old [Mosaic] law: love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength (Deuteronomy 6:5); and love your neighbor as yourself (Leviticus 19:18). The old [Mosaic] law had exclusive jurisdiction over the Jews in the Age of Israel. The old [Mosaic] law was discontinued after Christ fulfilled it during His First Advent (Matthew 5:17; Romans 10:4). Jews and Gentiles are no longer under the old [Mosaic] law in this present parenthetical Church Age dispensation. In the Church Age, the old commandments have been replaced by the new, simplified commandment: love God and love neighbor as self.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27, HCSB)

"Jesus said, "I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another." "(John 13:34, HCSB)

"For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself." (Galatians 5:14, HCSB)
The believer's fulfillment of the new commandment to love God and love neighbor as self is dependent on his fulfillment of the new law of spirituality. In other words, the believer must be spiritual [filled with the Holy Spirit and consistently advancing in the spiritual life] in order to have the capacity to love God and reflect God's love toward others.
"I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16, HCSB)

"For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want." (Galatians 5:17, HCSB)

"But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the [old Mosaic] law." (Galatians 5:18, HCSB, emphasis added)

"For those who live according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, about the things of the Spirit." (Romans 8:5, HCSB)
