"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 3:18a, NASB)

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes [strategies] of the devil. For our struggle [our spiritual combat] is not against flesh and blood [against human beings], but against the rulers [highest ranking demon generals], against the powers [authorities of the demon officer corps], against the world forces of this darkness [demon ambassadors], against the spiritual forces of wickedness [the rank-and-file demons] in the heavenly places [the stellar universe, even heaven itself]. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:10-17, NASB, emphasis added)
As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ who lived during the apostolic, pre-canon era of the Church Age, Peter and Paul knew firsthand the importance of intake of the Word of God and Bible Doctrine as the only viable defense against enemy-fire by the angelic antagonists in the invisible but very much real spiritual conflict that currently besets the human race. Peter and Paul each has given us believers living in this present parenthetical Church Age dispensation a clear objective command: grow up spiritually (2 Peter 3:18a) and put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-17). As believers living in the post-canon era of the Church Age, our objective after becoming born again [spiritually regenerated by faith alone in Christ alone] is to know God, love God, and glorify God [reflect God's essence] through the attainment of spiritual maturity, an endeavor that will continue for the remainder of our life on the earth. How do we reach this assigned objective? We make the decision to renovate our mind in order to think with the mind of Christ. In other words, we consistently take in the Word of God and Bible Doctrine on a daily basis. [The Word of God is found only in the Holy Bible while Bible Doctrine, i.e., the body of teaching drawn from literal interpretation of the Scriptures, is communicated only by gifted pastor-teachers . . . those individuals who, without special status, privilege, or merit received, solely on the basis of grace, the spiritual gift of pastor-teacher by God the Holy Spirit.] The Word of God coupled with Bible Doctrine is the mind or thinking of Jesus Christ and the source of divine viewpoint. Having a saturation of the Word of God and Bible Doctrine in our soul produces spiritual maturity whereby we have the capacity to consistently manifest the fruit of the Spirit, love God, love neighbor, execute God's plan, and glorify God [reflect God's essence] while defending against the unrelenting assaults of the enemies in the angelic conflict. Assimilated or precise [epignosis] knowledge of God through His Word becomes a protective fortress against the determined angelic antagonists.
Thou [LORD] art my hiding place and my shield: I [express confidence] in thy word. (Psalms 119:114, KJV, emphasis added)
