What is Truth?

Truth is the knowledge and thinking of God . . . which is free from contradiction, falsehood, and subjectivity and is therefore the basis for absolute reality.

It is the divine standard of perfect accuracy, objectivity, and integrity.

Truth is a synonym for Bible doctrine, divine revelation, the “word of truth”—everything communicated by God as guidance and instruction for man’s life on earth. (2 Timothy 2:15, NKJV)

What is the source of truth?

The source of all absolute truth is God, more specifically, His attribute of divine veracity (Romans 3:4; Hebrews 6:18). Truth is not something God acquired—God is truth, from eternity past throughout eternity future (John 14:6). In God, every form of knowledge and wisdom dwells in absoluteness. And from the truth that God is comes the truth we now have in writing [the Holy Bible].

The words of the LORD [Yahweh] are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.” (Psalms 12:6, NKJV)

You are near, O LORD [Yahweh], And all Your commandments are truth.” (Psalms 119:151, NKJV)

I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.” (Psalms 138:2, NKJV)

For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.” (2 Peter 1:16, NKJV)

knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20–21, NKJV)

Where is truth found?

Absolute objective truth is found in the Holy Bible. Every jot and tittle in the original text of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, is infallible, accurate, and complete, “and every one of [God’s] righteous ordinances is everlasting” (Psalm 119:160).

The entirety of [God’s] word is truth, And every one of [His] righteous judgments endures forever.” (Psalm 119:160, NKJV, emphasis added)

Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven [the word of truth], but My Father [God the Father] gives you the true bread from heaven [the word of truth, which is Bible doctrine].” (John 6:32, NKJV, emphasis added)

Designed by God to be learned and understood, the absolute truths of God’s Word are the means by which we orient to reality and, moreover, come to know and love “the true God.”

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.” (1 John 5:20, NKJV)

Man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD [Yahweh].” (Deuteronomy 8:3b, NKJV)

What are the categories of truth?

God’s truth communicated to mankind exists in three categories:
